Yolanda Kirkham appeared on Breakfast Television on Citytv in November 2025 to break down the four phases of the menstrual cycle and how each phase impacts wellbeing.

“It affects everybody, not just those who menstruate,” said Kirkham, an assistant professor of ob-gyn, who suggests that cycle awareness might help in making some adjustments to activities and at work.

On the menses phase: “It’s important to know over-the-counter medications like anti-inflammatories can really help decrease pain and flow by over 50 percent.”

On the follicular phase: “We can give in to our cravings sometimes. People get those period headaches. And magnesium is actually in dark chocolate!”

On the difficult luteal phase: “When we think about PMS, that’s the one where you get the breast tenderness, mood swings: angry, irritable and then sad. And you could have all your cravings at that time as well.”
