Resident Group Advocates for At-Risk Women During COVID-19
A letter from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology's Food Insecurity Advocacy Committee at the University of Toronto.
Dear ObGyn Colleagues,
We are writing this email on behalf of our ObGyn Resident Advocacy Committee. We hope that you are all doing well.
During this challenging time, we have been incredibly touched by the outpouring of support from our community for health care workers, in particular, from local restaurants.
We can't help but worry for some patients and members of our community who are far more vulnerable. Food insecurity is at an all-time high and we recognize many members of our communities are struggling. At baseline, 18.5% of homes in Toronto report food insecurity. We expect this number to increase as approximately one million Canadian jobs have been lost in the month of March. We attached a document highlighting some formal statistics regarding food insecurity in Canada.
