GTA-OBS Network

Dr. Jon Barrett, Director of the Women and Babies Program at the Sunnybrook Research Institute, has been appointed as the Waks Family Chair in Maternal-Fetal Medicine Research. The appointment was possible due to a philantrophic gift from Toronto's Fred and Linda Waks and their family and friends.

Dr. Barrett, who is also Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at Sunnybrook Research Institute, will use the generous gift to fund research on high-risk pregnancy complications, to help vulnerable mothers and babies. Dr. Jon Barrett is also the founder of the GTA-OBS Network established in October, 2013, with the goal of improving quality of care and patient safety through the collaboration of 17 GTA hospitals. Dr. Barrett works with our Department's Vice-Chair of QIPS, Dr. Gareth Seaward, and his executive team to establish best standards of care for management of pregnancy complications.

Dr. Barrett holds several research grants, including a grant from the Canadian Institute of Health Research, for his work on twin pregnancy complications.
