With so much talk about the upcoming transition to Competence-by-Design in July 2019, it can be easy to forget about all the progress we have made in improving assessment and feedback in the traditional residency program.

Since introducing electronic assessment and feedback forms in 2015, we have been successful in starting to make feedback and low-stakes assessment more commonplace, which is beneficial for both our current trainees and our upcoming Competence-By-Design cohort this summer.

Starting April 8 (BLOCK 11), is a simple online form called DOCs. DOCs gives you access to a newer, simplified DEEF for assessing and providing feedback about non-procedural patient encounters, an O-Score assessment tool for procedural skills, and a Case Log for residents to record their surgical and obstetrical cases.

We know that assessment can only foster growth when it is accompanied by specific, timely, and actionable feedback. As such, the DEEF has been modified according to feedback from faculty and trainees and we have reduced the number of numerical ratings, placing the emphasis on the written feedback that faculty and trainees alike find so valuable. We look forward to introducing DOCs to you at the CBD Development Day in April.

Join us at the CBD Development Day in April! Register here before March 31st.
