Dr. Ted Brown is a Full Professor and reproductive biologist with a primary research interest in the role steroid hormones and ovulation play in ovarian cancer risk and progression. He is a senior investigator at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Sinai Health and holds the Mount Sinai Auxiliary Chair in Women’s Health and Ovarian Cancer. Ted obtained his PhD in Zoology, with a focus on neuroendocrinology, from Iowa State University in 1985 and completed 4 years of post-doctoral research training in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale University with Neil MacLusky and Fred Naftolin. He joined the University of Toronto in 1989. Ted served as the head of the REI Division from 2005 until 2020, and currently heads the Division of Reproductive Sciences. He has been a member of the University department’s Executive Committee since 2005 and sits on a number of department committees, including the senior promotions committee, research committee, faculty appointments committee, and faculty development committee. Ted holds cross-appointments to the Department of Physiology, the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP), and the Institute of Medical Research (IMS). He sits on the Leadership Committee and Graduate Faculty Appointments Committee in IMS and directs the IMS Summer Undergraduate Research Program. He co-founded the MHSc Laboratory Medicine Program in the Department of LMP launched in 2020 and teaches various courses in LMP, IMS and Physiology.
